Teddy Joe Sutton (Ted) passed away on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital.

Teddy was born on Sept. 29, 1937, to Ernest & Ethel (Foley) Sutton of Lancaster. He grew up on the farmlands of Lancaster where he learned the life lessons of hard work and his passion for farm life was born.

He married his first wife, Barbara (Wilson) in 1956 and his first son Rick was born. Upon her death Teddy attended Campbellsville College where he met his wife Jean Gibson. They married March 6, 1958 and were happily married until his death 65 years later. They moved to Lexington, where they raised 3 children Sharon (Noell), Judy (Preissel) and Lawrence. Teddy worked as a Traffic Supervisor for the Trane Co. until his retirement over 30 years later. Teddy never missed a day of work due to illness in all of that time. Teddy and Jean returned to Jean’s hometown of Danville after the graduation of their children from the University of Kentucky. Upon his retirement Teddy returned to working the farm that he loved with his brother, Russel and his son, Rick. Teddy was a proud Mason and longtime member of Franklin Lodge No. 28 F&AM, serving a term as Master of the Lodge. As a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church Teddy carried out his commitment to helping serve others by volunteering his time and talents in whatever capacity was needed. Teddy was well respected by many as being a kind, loyal, hard-working and dedicated neighbor and friend. If he knew of someone with a need, he did what he could to make sure they were taken care of. The family has been deeply moved by the kind words and memories that have been shared by the many friends he has made over the years.

Teddy is survived by his spouse Jean (Gibson) Sutton, of Danville, brother Russel (Julia), of Seneca, South Carolina; children Rick (Vilma) Sutton – son, of Lancaster, Sharon (Mark) Noell – daughter, of Danville, Judy (Richard) Preissel – daughter of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and Lawrence (Rick Titone) Sutton – son, of New York City along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
