Boyle Landmark Trust will host a fundraiser Oct. 16 at the Wilderness Trail Distillery in Danville. 

“The Spirit of Preservation” is the topic of the annual fall event, which will raise funds for the education efforts of Landmark Trust, Barbara Hulette said.

The program is open to the public and aims to raise awareness about the history of Boyle County, which can help with economic growth and tourism, Hulette said.

“Wilderness Trail Distillery is a good example of how preservation is changing for the better,” said Yvonne Rettie, president of Landmark Trust. “Our focus of preservation is not just the restoration of old buildings and houses, but also to put the properties to good use so the community can benefit.”

Rettie said the Willis Russell Memorial House on Walnut Street, which has been restored by Landmark Trust, is a good example. The property is getting close to being put on the market for sale. Information will be available at the fundraiser event, she said.

“Guests are invited to an afternoon of history, guided tour, refreshments and spirit tasting,” Hulette said.

The program is a part of Kentucky’s 50th year of preservation efforts.

The following speakers are on the program:

• Shane Baker and Pat Heist, owners of Wilderness Trail Distillery, will talk about the history of bourbon;

• Brenda S. Edwards, local historian and member of Boyle County Genealogical and Historical Society, will give a history of the Willis Grimes property, where the distillery is located; and

• Craig Potts, executive director of the Kentucky Heritage Council in Frankfort, will present on the history of preservation in Kentucky.
