The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society (DBCHS) Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Paige Matthews as the organization’s new executive director, effective Sept.18. 

“Matthews is a motivated leader with a strong background in community and nonprofit involvement, event planning, staff management and volunteer coordination,” according to DBCHS. “She is a Danville native, a graduate of Western Kentucky University and current chair of the Danville School Board.”

“I am honored to have been given the opportunity to work as the new executive director of the humane society,” Matthews said. “I look forward to continuing the wonderful partnerships that are already in place with the community, as well as creating new opportunities for the public to see what an amazing new adoption center we have.” 

She added, “For someone who is passionate about animal welfare, this truly is a dream job.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Paige join our team. We look forward to how she will use her previous experiences, knowledge and expertise to help us continue to improve and expand our programs, volunteer coordination and community involvement,” said Fizzy Ramsey, board president. “This will be such a benefit to the animals in our care and for our community.”

The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization formed in 1972 to help the many abandoned and unwanted domestic animals in Boyle County. The late Charlotte Bateman was the driving force behind the creation of the DBCHS. The organization recently made improvements to its facilities, opening the new Katherine E. Nelsen Adoption Center, made possible by late director Kathy Nelsen.

The mission of DBCHS is to promote the humane treatment of companion animals through sheltering, adoptions, community education and spay/neuter programs. The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors working in cooperation with the Boyle Fiscal Court to operate the animal shelter.
