Buford W. Carpenter

1937-2017 

Buford W. Carpenter, 80, passed away Sunday October 29, 2017. He was born March 31, 1937 in Gravel Switch, Kentucky, one of two sons of the late B. and Hallie Shewmaker Carpenter. Buford was the devoted husband to Ruby Helen Yankey Carpenter for 61 years.

Buford was a member of Perryville High School Class of 1955 and was a member of the basketball team and the 6-man football team. He was employed by Armour Foods in Springfield for 46 years and ran a canned milk route for 10 years. He was a member of Perryville Baptist Church for 60 years, serving as a deacon, trustee, usher, and greeter. He served on the Perryville City Council, the Lions Club and the Hillcrest Cemetery beautification committee. Buford enjoyed a wonderful childhood surrounded by his many Carpenter cousins. He played on the Perryville fast pitch softball team and later formed the Hub Frankel Fast Pitch team. He also coached the Perryville Baptist slow pitch softball team for many years. 

During his retirement years, he enjoyed attending the “Board Meetings” at Mr. Misers and Battlefield Station. He was a loyal supporter of the Boyle County Rebels and the Kentucky Wildcats.

In addition to his loving wife Ruby, Buford is survived by two children, Cindy Lanham (Billy) and Chad Carpenter, a granddaughter Stephanie VanHook (Chris), great-grandson, Braden Storm Camack, and a brother Kenny Carpenter (Peggy).

Buford’s request for cremation was honored by his family. A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday November 2, 2017 at Perryville Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Davis and Rev. Chuck Bass officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Perryville Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund in Buford’s memory.
