All four of Danville Schools’ functional mental disability (FMD) classes will complete six murals celebrating their memories and favorite things about their classrooms and schools on Monday. The project, entitled “Smile Because It Happened,” was led by guest teaching artist Alfredo Escobar Feb. 12-16 to commemorate the elementary schools’ new configuration that will take effect next school year.

Students at Jennie Rogers Elementary School’s FMD class, taught by special education teacher Karen Tompkins have the honor having their murals stay at the building when it is converted from an elementary school to the school system’s central office. The other students’ murals will also be on display.
