Boyle County Farm Bureau Community Appreciation Day

Boyle County Farm Bureau will be hosting a Community Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 at the Farm Bureau Office, 446 North Danville Bypass. We will be serving a free lunch and will have displays of some of the Farm Bureau services that are available, as well as the fire department and sheriff’s office with safety information.

There will be some giveaways and door prizes. 

Hospice Tea & Treasure event

The third annual Heritage Hospice Tea & Treasure fund-raising event, hosted by the Volunteer Program, will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1441 Perryville Road in Danville, with doors opening at noon for the silent auction.

Tea will be provided by Elmwood Inn Teas. This unique event will feature savory foods and sweet treats.

Decorated tabletops will be auctioned to the highest bidder, and decorated theme baskets will be available to purchase.

Tickets are $25 or a group may reserve a table for eight for $200. All proceeds will benefit Heritage Hospice.

Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center sponsoring free cancer screening and educational event

Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center is sponsoring a free cancer screening and educational event from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 26. The event will be at Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center, located at 520 Techwood Drive in Danville.

Participants can learn about their risk for lung, breast, cervical, ovarian, melanoma, colon and prostate cancer. Screenings for sun damage will also be offered. During the event a registered nurse will discuss other cancer concerns that participants may have. The event will also allow participants the opportunity to pick-up cancer related educational materials, walk through an inflatable colon and enjoy refreshments, giveaways and door prizes.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, but with proper screenings and knowing your risks, many cancer related deaths could be prevented.

Fall festival at McDowell Place

McDowell Place of Danville will be having a family fall festival from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27. There will be games and prizes, as well as food, face painting, costume contest and trick or treating. McDowell Place is located at 1181 Ben Ali Drive.

Meetings

SBDM — 4:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Bate Middle School library. Items on the agenda include: 2016 KPREP data review; dress code update; first reading of several policies; and closed session for review of guidance counselor applications.

Architectural Heritage Board — 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Danville City Hall conference room. Items on the agenda include: certificates of appropriateness for; 120 North Third St., McClure, McClure & Bailey, 120 North Third St., applicant is requesting sign placement on exterior of building; 112 North Second St., Karen Douglas, applicant is requesting to use the north window and above for signage; 109 Larrimore Lane, Thad Overmyer, applicant is requesting to construct a gable roof over the flat roof and metal roof will be placed; grant design guidelines RFP discussion: a special called meeting will be Oct. 26.

Sidewalk prayer

PERRYVILLE — The final three sidewalk prayer meetings will be at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 26 and Nov. 16 in front of Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville. The group will be praying for the community, police and sheriff’s officers, schools, local state and federal officials and the military.

Danville-Boyle County Parks and Recreation Committee — 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the soft ball complex at Millennium Park. Items on the agenda include: 2017 Millennium facility usage; 2017 jersey sponsorships; Ad-Hoc committee update; audit assistance through December; hour reductions at Bunny Davis recreation center for 2017; and county/city appointments for 2017.

Danville Boyle County Human Rights Commission — 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the Boyle County Courthouse, in the Fiscal Court room on the first floor. Please arrive promptly and enter by the Forth Street entrance.  The Human Rights Commission is established to hear all complaints and concerns of community citizens related to violations of their human rights.
