Dear Editor,
Hats off to The Advocate-Messenger team for featuring the Danville school board candidate forum on the front page of the Sunday edition of the newspaper.
With national and state elections consuming the spotlight, local elections are often overlooked. And, with two vacant seats, Danville’s school board election is critical to securing the community’s future.
Our school district leaders and teachers are charged with educating and guiding our children to be successful in today’s ever-changing world. Our school board is charged with setting vision for the district, ensuring high academic standards, building public support, cultivating a collaborative relationship between the board and superintendent, and ensuring policy to provide a world class education for all of our children.
Candidate Malcolm Miller is poised to meet this charge, helping build an effective and united school board.
Mr. Miller, a Danville native and graduate of Danville High School (1981), has numerous credentials for the job. A few include membership on the Jennie Rogers site-based council and the district’s local planning committee (facilities), service as a school bus driver while in college, and knowledge of and experience with the classroom and athletic/extra-curricular activities.
In his closing remarks at the forum, Mr. Miller demonstrated his knowledge, experience and commitment to the Danville Ind. Schools as a parent and a professional. He said, “I will do my best to bring a top quality education to all students in our district. Every child is important.”
I encourage you to vote for Malcolm Miller for the Danville Board of Education November 8.
