Jewell Ashley Sears Turner, 90, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 17, 2018 in Danville, Ky., surrounded by her family.
She was born in Casey County, Ky., on December 16, 1927, to the late Henry B. and Ethel Rena Sutherland Sears. Jewell attended Danville High School and retired for Corning Glass/Phillips Lighting after 39 years, February 5, 1952-February 7, 1991, as a quality control inspector. She was a member of Cornerstone Assembley of God Church. Her hobbies included working jigsaw puzzles with her cousin Betty Keaton, reading and spending time with her family. She was also a true blue Kentucky Wildcat fan. Jewell loved her family. She was the widow of John D. Turner.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Rountree of Brandenburg, Ky.; five sisters, Mary Lee Ecklar of Cynthiana, Ky., Nannie Bell Hill of Millersburg, Ky., Alice Cooke of Marion, Ind., Joyce Stone of Lexington, Ky., Tina Stinnett of Lexington, Ky.; and two brothers, Hubert Sears of Casey Co., Ky., and Daniel Sears of Danville, Ky.
She is survived by three grandchildren, John (Alisa) Clements of Chattanooga, Tenn., Pam (Jeff) Lucas of Nonesuch, Ky., and Teresa Clements of Danville, Ky; a son-in-law, Shelby Rountree of Brandenburg; five great-grandchildren, Sara Cheatham, John Tyler Clements, Tim Whittaker, Tabitha Patel, Kasey Young; six great great-grandchildren, Ethan Cheatham, Aiden Cheatham, Kaedyn Whittaker, Riley Whittaker, Isabella Boarman, Aarya Patel; a very special niece, Linda (Paul) Barnes; her best friend and cousin, Betty Keaton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Pastor Tom Lane will officiate. Pallbearers will be John Tyler Clements, Tim Whittaker, Bobby and Bim Newton, Anthony Southerland and Paul Barnes. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell and Sue Preston, Joe and Sharon Price, Gaston and Mary Rose. Interment will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.
