Mentor training opportunity Thursday
A mentor training for Kids Hope USA will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Junction City First Baptist Church, 3860 U.S. 27 South, Danville.
Kids Hope USA provides structure, training, support and resources designed for use in public schools by churches, as well as ongoing materials and a support team for personal assistance.
The Hope Network is using the Kids Hope USA mentoring program to mentor kids in our elementary schools. As part of its mission to “target addictions that target people,” the first tenant of the Hope Network’s mission is prevention; mentoring children is the key to prevention.
The training is being offered to meet the requirements of Kids Hope USA for Hope Network’s mentors. Anyone who would like to become a mentor to a student in a local school system is welcome to attend.
Lawn Chair Theater rescheduled to this Friday
Due to the weather forecast, Lawn Chair Theater was postponed from last week and moved to Friday, Aug. 17. The feature will be “Black Panther,” and the movie goes up on the big screen at Constitution Square Park at dusk. Popcorn and drinks will be sold, which benefit the Heart of Danville to support downtown events and promotion.
Movie-goers are invited to bring a chair or blanket for the crew and join others under the stars for a great night of family fun.
