Junction City Council — 7 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 12), at Junction City Community Center. The agenda includes the second reading of the tax ordinance.

Fort Harrod Back Country Horsemen moonlight trail ride

Fort Harrod Back Country Horsemen (FHBCH) will enjoy the beauty of Shaker Village after dark during its annual moonlight ride on Friday, Sept. 13. Event registration will begin at 6:30, with all participants required to show a negative Coggins as they enter the Village property.

Riders will be assigned to guided groups that will leave the West Lot parking area at various times. The cost of the ride is $20, with $10 going to Shaker Village and $10 used to help sponsor a Back Country Horsemen of America (BCHA) representative to attend the BCHA national meeting. Fees will be collected during registration and parking lot attendants will direct riders where to park their trailers. All riders must check in following the ride to confirm that all horses and riders have returned.

Free health screenings Sept. 25

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring free health screenings on September 25 at the Garrard County Extension Office in Lancaster from 7-9 a.m. Screenings include cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, stroke risk assessment and take-home colorectal cancer screening kits (over age 50).   Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel.  Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended.  To schedule an appointment, please call (859) 792-3026.  The screenings are for anyone 18 years and older.
