The Boyle County Public Library offers numerous free activities for patrons of all ages, including a Winter Wonderland display that includes a festive backdrop for holiday photos. The library is currently hosting Dinosaur Discovery, an exhibit featuring over 120 fossils and castings from Dr. John Hankla’s curated collection. More information about the exhibit can be found at BoylePubLib.org/Dinosaurs. In addition to the exhibit, library patrons can also enjoy interactive activities including crafting projects, games, and weekly storytimes. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Game On!
Teens are invited to play video games at the library on December 17 from 4:00-5:20 PM. Battle with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event will be held on the 5th Level of the library. Masks are recommended. (Ages 13-18)

Annual Bookmark Contest: Newbery Medal 100th Anniversary
The library is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Newbery Medal, an annual award honoring children’s literature. Beginning Monday, December 13, the library’s annual Bookmark Contest returns as part of the celebration. Youth, ages 18 and under, are invited to participate in the contest for chances to win Newbery Medal-themed prizes including tote bags and shirts. To participate, design a bookmark based on a favorite Newbery Medal book or character on the official bookmark form, which can be picked up at the library or downloaded from the library’s website at BoylePubLib.org/newbery100. Completed bookmark entries must be submitted to the Library by January 22, 2022. Library staff will vote on age group winners and an overall grand prize winner. Each age group winner and grand prize winner will have their bookmark design printed and available in the library.
During the anniversary celebration, the library will host special contests, book displays, and more. Newbery Medal winners and honors books are on display in the Youth Department. Stop by and cast a vote for your favorite Newbery Medal winner in the ballot box. All entries will be entered to win a prize. The Youth Department’s Scavenger Hunt will feature Newbery Medal winners’ covers hidden all over the department for kids to find. Pick up a list of all 100 years’ worth of Newbery Medal winners at the desk in the Youth Department. More programs in January will be announced on the library’s website.
