Extension Office hosting sustainable food workshop

You may often think about what you are having for dinner, but have you ever stopped to think about how far that food travels to get there? Was it grown in the United States? Was it grown in a different country? There are a lot of reasons people choose to purchase and eat the food they do – taste, cost, availability, are the top. But one gaining momentum is taking care of the place our food comes from – the Earth. What’s even better is that shifting our food purchases to protect the Earth may also lead to improved human health – that’s a win-win.
The Boyle County Extension Office will be hosting a workshop titled It’s a Win-Win for Our Health and Environment on Tuesday, July 12 at 6 pm. Join us for this program where we will identify what sustainable eating is and why it may benefit our local growers and farmers and the food they produce. We will also discuss what it means to eat locally and how to rethink meal preparation and grocery shopping. You will not want to miss this fun and interactive lesson! During this program there will be a food demonstration and recipe tasting of the Plate It Up KY Proud recipe “Fresh Corn Salad.” Call 236-4484 to sign up for the free program.
