During the monthly meeting of the Danville Independent Schools Board of Eduction recently, board chair Steve Becker discussed his time on the board.
“I’m finishing my 16th year, it’s been a long time since I haven’t been on this board of education,” said Becker, who did not run for re-election in November. “I’ve had the honor to serve several superintendents and board members who have all been excellent in their jobs. It’s been a pleasure.”
Superintendent Greg Ross, Ph.D., presented an award to Becker in honor of his service on the board.
“It was very prudent and needed to show you our appreciation,” Ross said, “This is a service award for 16 years of outstanding and dedicated service to the Danville Board of Education.”
For other business discussed at the meeting, the board has approved a project and will begin bidding to replace the lighting in Gravely Hall at Danville High School.
“What convinced the board to move along with this project was the bid for the gym lighting,” Becker said. “The energy savings and rate of return were amazing. From the amounts we are talking about we have to bid it.”
The board has approved a motion to begin rebidding the concrete for the Anchor Plaza project at the high school. This is being done to save money as concrete prices have dropped since the bid was originally approved in May.
