Learn about Mango Languages at the library

NEWS RELEASE

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, author visits, crafting and book clubs. During August, youth programming staff visit many of the local back-to-school events, promoting literacy and sharing with students, educators, and families information about all the library has to offer. Youth programs will resume in September, following the conclusion of the school visits. Adult programs are ongoing. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Gathering Artists Summer Exhibit

The Boyle County Public Library is hosting the Gathering Artists Summer 2023 Exhibit, “Playing Favorites.” The exhibit features the works of numerous regional artists. Each piece of art reflects the exhibit title, featuring the favorite piece(s) of each artist. Artwork includes paintings, photography, felted pieces, sculptures, and jewelry. The exhibit will be on display in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery at the library through Aug. 31.

Adult D&D

Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, Aug. 13 at noon or 4:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

Third Thursday Book Club

Join us for a book club discussion on the third Thursday of every month. In August we will be reading The Coalwood Way by Homer Hickam. Join the book discussion on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

New Online Resource: Mango Languages

In addition to programs, the library offers numerous resources for the community. Mango Languages is a personalized, adaptive language-learning experience that provides the tools and guidance you need to expand your language skills. Powered by intelligent technology and an adaptive algorithm, Mango empowers its users to communicate with confidence. Each online lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application by focusing on the four key elements of language learning: vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and culture. Mango offers access to over 70 world language courses, including English, Spanish, and Italian. Mango Languages can be accessed for free with a valid BCPL library card number. Get started at BoylePubLib.org/mango.
