Two arrested, charged with rape of minor

Two Mercer County people were arrested on charges involving a minor early Monday morning by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Special Response Team.

Rafael Poynter, 43, and his ex-wife Anastasia Vandergriff, 35, both of Mercer County, were arrested at 2016 Shakertown Road, according to a release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

Poynter was charged with first-degree complicity to commit rape of a victim under 12; first-degree complicity to commit sodomy of a victim under 12; use of a minor under 16 in a sexual performance; and promoting a minor under 16 in a sexual performance.

Vandergriff

Vandergriff was charged with first-degree rape of a victim under 12; first-degree sodomy of a victim under 12; and use of a minor in a sexual performance.

The two are lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center. More charges may result. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff, children were removed from the home and placed with the Department for Community Based Services, which placed the children with relatives.
The sheriff’s office did not respond to multiple calls asking for further details.
