On Thursday, the Back Porch Club House in Stanford was a packed house for a chili dinner fundraiser to support local teacher Kim Grimes in her battle with brain cancer.

“My mom was diagnosed with brain cancer in December so we are just trying to raise money for her treatment, travel expenses and things like that,” said Grimes’ daughter Hannah Cain. “We also wanted to have a get together for her so she can be around her friends and family, It is amazing the support we have had from the community and our family and friends. It has really boosted her spirit.”

Grimes spent 18 years as a teacher for Lincoln County Schools and was in third year as a teacher for Danville Independent Schools at the time of her diagnosis.

“The support has been overwhelming,” Grimes said. “The support from the community and my friends. It is a blessing, there is no other way to describe it.”
