Jayne Leigh Bean Hunstad, 66, of Garrard County passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025. Born in Danville on July 11, 1958, she was the daughter of Mary Lou Sanders Elkin and the late Eldrid “Chappy” Bean. Born a farmer’s daughter, she grew up in an eccentric family with deep roots in Central Kentucky that instilled within her a strong sense of community, sentimentality, compassion, and independence. Most importantly, she lived her life in service of others, taking care of her own children but also taking others under her wing throughout her life. She had equal compassion for the elderly, and it didn’t matter if they were family or not. She continued visiting the nursing home regularly long after her relatives there passed. She loved gardening, planting and tending to flowers, and she owned and operated Bo-Kay’s florist for years where she showcased a few of her many creative talents. Like her father, she never met a stranger and her love for people and community made her a walking encyclopedia for local history and genealogy. In her younger days, she enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping, boating, waterskiing, and horseback riding. She had lifelong friends who she loved to interact with regularly. She got a thrill from home renovations and beautifying outdoor spaces and accomplished many projects with her loving husband. In more recent years, her grandchildren have been the wind in her sails. Together they’ve enjoyed their time picking blackberries and chasing butterflies, making all sorts of crafts, sweets, experiments and memories that will never be forgotten. Jayne is survived by her husband of 34 years, Nels Hunstad of Garrard County; mother, Mary Lou Sanders Elkin of Danville; sons: Logan Greene of Garrard County, Tyler (Brittany) Greene of Garrard County, and Brendan Hunstad of CA; daughters: Kayleigh Hunstad of Danville, Brianna (Allen) Smentkowski of MD, and Emily Greene of Garrard County; brother, Doug (Suzanne) Bean of Garrard County; grandchildren: Bowen Fox and Maebrey Greene and Isla and Emma Smentkowski; and she was a beloved aunt to Chapman and Whitney Bean. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Patty Taylor, of Danville. Visitation is 5:00 PM-9:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Lancaster. A private graveside service will be held on the family farm with Chapman Bean officiating. Guestbook is available at www.wlpruitt.com. Arrangements by W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland.
