Sen. Amanda Mays Bledsoe, R-Lexington, is the recipient of a Kentucky League of Cities Friend of Kentucky Cities award. She is among 20 lawmakers recognized with the award.

KLC annually recognizes legislators who advocate for issues and secure the passage of legislation important to cities. Mays-Bledsoe, co-chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Appropriations and Revenue, sponsored two of the organization’s initiatives, Senate Bill 141 and Senate Bill 206.

SB 141 allows cities to list unpaid code enforcement liens on property tax bills. This bill also created the task force on local government annexation and placed a one-year moratorium on annexations with a few exceptions.

SB 206 amended KRS 67A.430 to increase the minimum monthly annuity from the Police and Fire Retirement Fund of urban-county governments (currently only Lexington-Fayette County) to $1,500 per month effective July 1, except for those individuals receiving a non-occupational disability.

Mays-Bledsoe and fellow lawmakers enacted 176 bills in the 2023 Legislative Session, 68 percent of which were supported by KLC.

In addition to Interim Joint Committees, Senator Mays-Bledsoe serves as an ex-officio member of the Budget Review Sub-committees on Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Protection; Education, General Government, Finance, Personnel and Public Retirement; Justice and Judiciary; and Health and Family Services. She is the co-chair of the Tobacco Settlement Agreement Fund Oversight Committee; a member of the 2024-2026 Budget Preparation and Submission Committee; and the Ky Health and Human Services Delivery System Task Force.
