During the Perryville City Council meeting on July 6, the council approved the road closures of Smith Street, West 3rd Street and parts of East 3rd Street for the upcoming annual Turtle Derby on July 22. The Turtle Derby will feature live music, horse and carriage rides, free inflatables and yard games. New paid additions this year are axe throwing, mini-golf, and a dunk tank. To make it easier for out-of-town vendors to purchase their business license, the council has voted to establish a Venmo account for the city to allow online filings.

The council unanimously voted to officially appoint Trista Hinkle as the new city clerk.

Additionally, the council passed the first reading of Ordinance 2009-004 which adds a penalty for failure to acquire an occupational license in the city as required. Those who fail to obtain a license will be fined 10 percent of the occupational license fee for each day of the violation. Fines will be no less than 25 dollars and no more than 100 dollars for each offense.

The council has approved a road closure at the corner of the Marathon Gas Station on July 29 from 8 a.m. to noon for a non-profit fundraiser. The council had received few details on the purpose of the closure, but ultimately voted to approve it. They will begin looking at creating a set of requirements for those asking for road closures and will require future requests to made during the council meetings.
