The Danville Independent School District has named Tom Brown, an educator with extensive experience in athletics and administration, as consultant for athletics and facilities at Danville High School.

“We’ve lived in this community for 30 years now, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to help any way I can here in Danville and see that we get better and better,” Brown said.

One thing Brown is looking forward to in the position is developing a strategic plan for athletic facility improvements.

Brown’s most recent previous role was superintendent for the Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Lexington.

He retired from public education in 2001 and since then has held several interim positions, worked at Centre College and spent 10 years with Catholic schools.

Among the many roles he has held in athletics, he has been head baseball coach at Nelson County, an interim athletic director at Marshall County and Bethlehem High School, and he coached football at Nelson County, Campbellsville University and Centre College.

His son, Neal, is head football coach at West Virginia University.

DHS Principal Chad Luhman said he is excited about the hire and the experience Brown brings to the school.

“We are so honored to have the expertise and experience that Tom Brown will bring to our administrative team,” he said. “He will continue to connect our community with a positive energy. This is a great addition to our district as we strategically plan our next steps for continuous improvement.”
