The Downtown Streetscape project is nearing its final stages. City engineer Josh Morgan expects major work to be done by the end of the month with a few finishing touches continuing into September.

“The contractor is still planning to be done with major work on Main Street by the end of August,” Morgan said. “If everything goes as planned on South Third and North Fourth, the goal is to be ready to repave and turn on the new lights in mid to late September. It’s exciting because we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Last week, crews continued working on sidewalks on the Eastern side of North Fourth Street and the northwest corner of intersection of Main Street and Second Street. Demolition began on the Eastern side of South Third Street. In several areas crews have begun wrapping up construction with the installation of pavers, cleaning up the work area, and washing building facades.
