Our featured pets this week are the current class of Mutts with Manners. DBCHS launched Mutts with Manners in 2009 in cooperation with Northpoint Training Center in Burgin. It pairs carefully screened prison inmates with shelter dogs; prison staff and volunteers work together to provide dogs with basic obedience training, socialization, and behavior modification.

Prison inmates live with their dogs in the dormitory and attend weekly training sessions. Dogs participating in the program graduate with many valuable skills: MWM’s are confident, well-behaved, and ready to live with a loving family. Meet them now.

Jerry is a handsome, laid-back two-year-old who loves to learn. Jerry’s vibe is chill and relaxed, and he likes to be loved on more than anything else! As his handler said: “Jerry is a good ole dog. If you’re looking for a fishing buddy or a porch dog, Jerry’s the dog for you.”

Jenny is energetic and very interested in everything that’s going on around her, and a gorgeous gal, to boot. Jenny likes other dogs but is bossy now and then. Her energy level is similar to a playful pup’s, but Jenny knows how to settle down and listen to commands when necessary. Invite this little spark plug into your home, and be happy forever!

Josie is a high-energy, one-year-old mixed breed with a bubbly and sparkling personality. She’s channeling her energy into learning commands and is doing well! She’d like you to give her lots of enrichment and exercise to be the best girl. You’ll love her!

Kane is a handsome dog who rides well in the car, loves to play, takes treats gently, and is learning lots of new things in the program. Before going to MWM, he bounced around from home to home. This big boy remains happy and smiling! Kane will make an excellent addition to your family.

Leo’s so sweet and carefree that you can’t help smiling with him. He’s a big boy with a giant head, and, at two-and-a-half years old, Leo’s still got puppy energy. Leo’s favorite thing is Zoomies. He zigzags across the yard and spins gleefully until tiring, then plops down in the shade to hang with the human. Leo is working on basic commands, and he’s showing promise.

All our Mutts are up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and ready to get sprung!
