Curtis Murl Durham

Curtis Murl Durham, 101, of Stanford, son of the late Elvin Durham and Artie Walls (Durham) Johnson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. Born on Jan. 20, 1922. He is the widower of the late Madaline Cain Durham.

Curtis served in the U.S. Army and is a Veteran of WWII. He was a longtime member of Turnersville Christian Church where he served as an elder, and later attended New Salem Baptist Church. He worked for the Lincoln County Board of Education for many years as a school bus driver and mechanic, and was also a farmer.

In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his wife, Madaline Durham (2002), two children, Franklin Durham and Carolyn Durham McNew; one granddaughter, Danielle Durham; four brothers, Carlis Durham, Earl Durham, Terrill Durham and Elvin Durham; three sisters, Chelsie Durham, Maxine Delk and Louada Smith.

Survivors include two sons, David Durham (JoEl Ford) of Danville and Richard Durham (Felecia) of Lexington; one brother, Jack Johnson of Stanford; one sister, Maria Duttera of Newark, OH; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A one-day service was held on Jan. 2 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford. Burial followed at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.

Full Military Honors were presented by Caswell Saufley Post 18.
