The Pet of the Week is Josie, another Mutts with Manners dog at Northpoint Training Center. You may need to let your dentist know if you’re interested in Josie because she is 44 pounds pure sweetness. Josie is a mixed breed made up of love, gentleness, and a big scoop of friendliness.
She is very energetic and loves to play fetch! At the same time, Josie has toys that can keep her entertained if you are busy. She loves being social and playing with other dogs. To Josie, dogs are the BEST, but she will do okay with cats. Need a walking partner? Josie loves to go sightseeing!
Josie is a Mutts with Manners graduate, so she’s attentive and will listen to you very well. Josie can do several different tricks! She can do peekaboo, tell me a secret, spin, who’s your buddy, bang, roll over, shake, high 5s, wave, and the hurricane! The tricks are the icing on the cake: Josie also knows her basic commands, such as sit, down, heel, wait, stay, come, off, and leave it.
She LOVES water, so you never have to worry about her not wanting to take a bath. Josie is the kind of dog that will make you smile and help turn a bad day into a good one.
Josie is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, potty-trained, crate-trained, clicker-trained, and microchipped!

DBCHS launched the Mutts with Manners program in 2009 to provide one-on-one and companionship for shelter dogs. Carefully screened prison inmates are paired with shelter dogs for a program co-sponsored by Northpoint Training Center in Burgin, KY. Inmates, prison staff, and volunteers work together to provide dogs with basic obedience training, socialization, and behavior modification.
Prison inmates live with their dogs in the dormitory and attend weekly sessions with an expert volunteer dog trainer. MWM dogs are confident and well-socialized and will make an ideal companion for anyone.
