Danville codes to remember this summer

The City of Danville’s Codes Enforcement Officers receive many calls and questions this time of year when more folks are outdoors, and the grass is growing.

It’s important that we work together to maintain a safe, healthy and attractive community. Consider these codes this summer and do your part to be a good neighbor:

Property owners in the City of Danville are required to prevent excessive growth of weeds and grass by cutting as close to the earth as possible to maintain uniformity, not exceeding 12 inches. This includes the area between the sidewalk and the street. Clippings should not be swept onto the sidewalks or streets.

More information can be found in the Danville Code of Ordinances 8-1 (Ord. No. 1933, S1, 7-22-19).

Barking dogs

The City of Danville’s Code of Ordinances Chapter 8, Article III addresses the control of sounds of all kinds, including barking dogs.

The ordinance defines a “barking dog” as one that makes continuous noise for a period of 10 minutes or intermittently for one-half hour or more, day or night, across a residential zoned or commercial zoned property line.

Please monitor your pets noise levels and be respectful of neighbors.

More information can be found in the Danville Code of Ordinances Chapter 8, Article 3: Control of Sounds.

Trash container placement

Trash/recycling containers should be placed at the curb, side of residences, or in the alleys nearest to the street on the day of collection.

Once emptied, containers should be removed from the street and placed to the rear or side of the residence no later than the same day.

Containers should not be stored at the front of the residence. Find your collection schedule at republicservices.com/schedule.

More information can be found in the Danville Code of Ordinances 7-4 (Ord. No. 1735, S 1, 6-23-08).

Anyone in violation of the above codes may be fined.
