Michael Smith Park in Danville held a grand reopening event June 8 to celebrate the completion of a new playground and splash pad.
The splash pad has water features for kids to play in, including sprinklers, fountains and buckets, and will be open all summer.
Community members gathered at the event for a ribbon cutting, food, play time, and music by Michael Hughes.
The project is one part of a bigger parks improvement project throughout Danville. City of Danville staff had gathered community feedback on what they wanted at Michael Smith Park, and determined that a water feature and updated facilities were needed.
