Mary Stewart Guerrant, 94, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024. Mary was born February 20, 1930 in Perryville, Kentucky a daughter of the late Nelson D. and Sarah Overstreet Powell.
Mary was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and a friend to many. She was a lifelong member of Perryville Christian Church. She served as a deacon, Board Member, and on various committees as well as being a member of Hy Shy Ny.
Mary learned to knit at a young age and became a master knitter. Over the years she created dozens of beautiful sweaters for family and friends and many of them were Blue Ribbon winners at county and state events.
She worked for 30 years for the Kentucky Cabinet of Human Resources in the department of Social Insurance, retiring in 1990 as a Principal Case Worker. She served for years on the Parksville Water Board and was an active member of the Boyle County Homemakers Association.
Mary took delight in traveling to see family and to visit historic sites. She and her late daughter especially enjoyed trips to Ashville, North Carolina, England, and Scotland. She was an avid UK fan and had season football tickets which she enjoyed with her family. She played cards and was a member of several Bridge Clubs. In her retirement, Mary was a member of a lady’s golf league and enjoyed many rounds of golf at Bright Leaf in Harrodsburg.
Mary is survived by her son, Joseph A. (Kathy) York and a brother, Nelson D. Powell, Jr. (Carol Holm). Also surviving are four nieces and a nephew.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Margaret Rall and siblings Margaret Ann Helton and Clarence E. Powell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday June 22, 2024 at Perryville Christian Church with David Walden officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Inurnment will immediately follow at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville.
