There will be a Juneteenth celebration at Michael M. Smith Memorial Park in Danville on Friday, June 21. From 6 to 9 p.m., people can enjoy music, card games, old school line dancing, kick ball, cornhole and the brand new splash pad and playground at the park. People can bring food, drinks, and chairs.

The event is organized by community members. The Juneteenth holiday, also called Freedom Day, celebrates the date of June 19, 1865 when a Texas general ordered the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation.
