The Pet of the Week is Lilly, a Mutts with Manners dog at Northpoint Training Center earning gold stars. But maybe we should let her tell you about herself: My name is Lilly and I’m a Pit Bull Terrier around 6 years old. Look at how pretty I am with my black coat and white markings! I’m way more than my good looks, though.

I know all my basic commands: I am crate-trained, potty-trained, microchipped, and clicker-trained. Plus I walk well on a leash. I’ll be a good girl in the house because I am calm. Oh! Even though I’m a laid-back kinda gal I LOVE toys. A little play and a little walk are enough before it’s time for a nap, though. Who doesn’t love lying around, cuddling, getting belly rubs, and giving kisses?

Check this out: I know 12 tricks! I can spin, back up, wipe-nose, sit pretty, roll over, figure 8, shake, high 5, around, secret, bang, and take-bring-give. Take-bring-give is when

I will pick up things for you such as a leash, toys, shoes, keys, ID, spoon, remote, etc. I love to help! Plus, I’m attentive and look to you for guidance so I can do whatever makes you happy. Make me happy, too, and take me home!

The Mutts with Manners (MWM) program was developed by DBCHS in 2009 to provide one-on-training and companionship for shelter dogs. Carefully screened prison inmates are paired with shelter dogs for a program co-sponsored by Northpoint Training Center in Burgin, KY. Inmates, prison staff, and volunteers work together to provide dogs with basic obedience training, socialization, and behavior modification.

Prison inmates live with their dogs in the dormitory and attend weekly sessions with an expert volunteer dog trainer. MWM dogs are confident and well-socialized and will make an ideal companion for anyone.

Lilly is fixed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to go home with you. Fill out an application and if you’re a good fit a volunteer will contact you to schedule a meet-and-greet.  https://www.dbchs.org/muttswithmanners.
