An extra year of college paid off for Antonio Reeves.
The former Kentucky guard was selected in the second round as the 47th overall pick by the Orlando Magic and then was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday.
“I’m so proud of Antonio Reeves,” former Kentucky coach and Arkansas boss John Calipari said. “He has made himself an NBA player. A three-level scorer who became a defender and a rebounder. I absolutely loved coaching him and seeing his growth.”
Justin Edwards, once considered to be a possible lottery pick, was not chosen in the draft but has reportedly signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
On Wednesday night, Reed Sheppard was chosen as the third overall pick by the Houston Rockets, while teammate Rob Dillingham went to the Minnesota Timberwolves after he was traded by the San Antonio Spurs as the eighth pick.
“We’re super excited for these young men and what they’ve contributed here and what they’re going to do in the future,” Kentucky coach Mark Pope said earlier this week. “This tradition at Kentucky of having great players come here and hang banners and then go play in the NBA is part of what makes this place special.”
