Danville police responded to Speedway after reports of shots being fired on July 10 at 8:30 p.m. Upon investigation, police determined that Alexander Baldwin, 38, of Lexington, was shot in the hand.
Officers determined that Baldwin had been angry with his 28-year-old girlfriend, whose identity has not been released, while they were inside Speedway. Baldwin began to choke her, then took her outside, where he threw her on the ground, causing her to lose consciousness temporarily.
When she regained consciousness, she entered her vehicle’s passenger seat while it was parked at a pump, and saw that Baldwin was in the driver’s seat. A .380 pistol was in the passenger’s seat at the time. The victim stated that Baldwin made a move to grab the weapon, resulting in a brief scuffle as she tried to also grab the firearm. Two shots were discharged, with one hitting Baldwin in the hand. Both parties were unarmed upon police arrival.
Baldwin received medical treatment at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Baldwin was subsequently arrested and charged with wanton endangerment 1st degree, strangulation 1st degree, and assault 4th degree dating violence (minor injury). The victim was treated for minor injuries and released.
Boyle County EMS and the Danville Fire Department assisted Danville Police on the scene.
