During the Danville City Commission meeting on July 22, the commission approved a zone change for just under 57 acres along Gose Pike and the South Danville Bypass from agricultural to a single-family residential zone.

With high traffic in the area, City Engineer Josh Morgan explained that developers, the city, adjacent property owners, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will work to ensure that a solution is found to make the area safer.

“We are going to end up with three developers there, a residential, low-density housing, and then high-density,” Morgan said. “The highway safety office is looking at the Gose Pike and Danville bypass intersection. There is so much unknown now. We want to make sure everybody is involved. As the city it is our duty to ensure everyone is working together.”

The commission approved resolution 2024-07-22-03, which funds the design fee for a new community pool at the Bunny Davis Community Center. Morgan said that the fee is $112,000 or 15 percent of the project’s total estimated cost of $3,000,000. Morgan explained that would be a typical cost for the first design stage. The city will seek reimbursement for half of the fee from the county government.

In other news from the meeting, it was announced that the entrance to Chick-Fil-A has been given a conservative estimated time frame of being back open in September.
