Danville’s first home game of the season was a quick one because of Pulaski County’s determination and swiftness.

After both teams lost their season openers, Pulaski proved too powerful in a 56-6 victory Friday in the Whitaker Bank Pigskin Classic, which was moved to Andy Frye Stadium at Centre College because of electrical problems at Admiral Stadium.

The game moved fast as Pulaski moved the ball past Danville’s defense, easily gaining a five-touchdown lead before the first quarter ended that resulted in a running clock for the rest of the game.

On the other hand, Danville struggled past the Maroons’ defense, gaining only two first downs in the entire game and scoring only once in the fourth quarter when Naythan Doyle made it to the end zone.

Danville coach Frank Parks Jr. said Pulaski had a physical advantage compared to Danville, easily evading tackles and running the ball quickly, and he said the Admirals just didn’t respond well.

“Our form wasn’t good, heads down, and at the end of the day they had more physicality,” Parks said.

Pulaski (1-1), the second straight Class 5A opponent at the top of the Admirals’ schedule, opened the game with a touchdown by Kasen Brock on the first play.

Each time Danville (0-2) got the ball back, it couldn’t make it past Pulaski for the entire first half as the Maroons’ defense was too strong.

Their offense proved too much for Danville as well. With their speed and technique, they made it to the end zone effortlessly time after time.

Brock contributed to three of Pulaski’s touchdowns the Maroons gained, including two in the first quarter, and altogether gained 163 rushing yards.

While the Admirals had only 35 rushing yards for the entire game, Pulaski gained 253 rushing yards.

The third quarter was quick with one touchdown by Pulaski from Harris Denmyer.

Danville responded in the beginning of the fourth quarter when Naythan Doyle threw a 37-yard pass to Jutayvion Beasley that gave them their second first down. Soon after, Doyle ran 7 yards past Pulaski’s defense to the end zone, bringing the score to 48-6.

Immediately after, however, the Maroons’ Will Adams took the ball 30 yards for yet another touchdown, setting the final score to 56-6 as the Admirals fell to 22-7 in their own bowl.

This was Danville’s first game on the Centre College field since Oct. 19, 1973, when the Admirals defeated Jessamine County 81-12 in the final home game of the last season they called Farris Stadium (recently rebuilt as Andy Frye Stadium) home. They moved to Admiral Stadium the following season.

Danville will renew an old rivalry when it hosts Lincoln County on Friday.

It will be the third meeting in four years between the Admirals and Patriots, who met only four times in the previous 14 seasons after regular battles through most of the 1980s and ’90s. Danville prevailed in the last meeting in 2022, beating Lincoln 26-14.

The Admirals lead the series – which began in Lincoln’s inaugural season in 1975 – 24-2, with Lincoln winning 20-0 in 1988 and by forfeit in 2004.

Lincoln is 2-0 this season with wins over Garrard County and Bullitt Central.
