Karen L. Logue informed the Board of Directors of West T. Hill Community Theatre (WTHCT) in Danville of her intention to retire last month.
Logue has served as the theatre’s Managing Director since 1999. Even before being hired as the theatre’s first paid, part-time employee, Karen handled the theatre’s administrative duties for several years as a volunteer. The sum of her active involvement in WTHCT spans over 40 years.
During her tenure as Managing Director, WTHCT acquired the facility at 139 N. Third Street that houses its office and prop and costume storage, paid off the mortgage on the Larrimore Lane building where the performance space is located, and initiated its relationship with Uplift Performing Arts in Carrickfergus Northern Ireland for the Shamrock summer performing arts camps which celebrated a 10-year anniversary this past summer.
In addition to managing the business affairs of WTHCT, Karen has also overseen its artistic efforts: coordinating the planning of each season of plays and events of the theatre, directing dozens of stage productions, leading drama camps and classes, and appearing on stage herself many times.
In her notice to the Board, Logue wrote, “I have often said over the years that ‘I have the best job in the world’. Being part of West T. Hill theatre has been both a privilege and a joy for more than 45 years. Since becoming Managing Director in 1999, I have proudly represented the theatre in every way I could. It is now time for a new guard, a new generation to take us forward.”
Steve Rinehart, current President of the WTHCT Board, noted that “for many in Danville and the region, Karen Logue has been the face and the spirit of West T. Hill Community Theatre for a very long time. Personally and professionally, Karen has impacted the lives of thousands of people in the community. The Board of Directors wishes Karen a long and happy ‘run’ in retirement.”
