Boyle County started the second half of its bass fishing season with a bang Sunday at Lake Cumberland as Sam Clark and Daniel Notter took home second place honors in the Boyle County High School Open.

Clark and Notter totaled 10.92 pounds. Southwestern’s James Duncan and Chandler Break took first place with 14.78 pounds.

“Everything finally came together for our tournament and it felt amazing,” Notter said via email. “I’m glad Sam and I represented in the best way possible for a tournament we were hosting.”

Notter and Clark were both ready to thank their boat captain Josh Clark, Sam’s father.

“We cannot do it without him and his guidance and boat,” Notter said.

The Rebels had 14 boats entered the 50-boat event.

GIRLS TENNIS

CASEY COUNTY 4, METCALFE COUNTY 1; SOUTH WARREN 3, CASEY COUNTY 2 — Kristen Hogue and Gena Cravens went 2-0 in their singles matches on Saturday as the Rebels split a pair of matches in Bowling Green.

Laci Lee and Sarah Harne won at first doubles in the Metcalfe match, and Abi Crew and Bekah Cochran won at second doubles.

Amber Pierce had two close losses at first singles, falling 9-7 against Metcalfe and 7-6 (4), 5-7, 1-0 (6) against South Warren.

“She played some of her best tennis despite losing two close matches,” Casey coach Marvetta Overstreet said in an email.

BOYS TENNIS

SOMERSET 5, CASEY COUNTY 4; CASEY COUNTY 7, SOUTHWESTERN 2 — Austin Harne, Luke Coffman, Luke Johnson, Josh Underwood and Jax Ponder all won their singles matches as the Rebels took care of Southwestern on Saturday.

Coffman and Underwood won at first doubles while Johnson and Ponder won at second.

Underwood, Will Thompson and Braydon Brown won singles matches in the loss to Somerset. Johnson and Ponder won at second doubles, and Coffman and Thompson won third singles.

SOFTBALL

CORBIN 19, DANVILLE 4 (3) — Alayna Wood drove in a pair of runs, but the Admirals couldn’t keep up with Corbin in Saturday’s loss. The Redhounds out-hit Danville 12-5.

The Ads led 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but Corbin pounded out 15 runs in the bottom of the inning.

SOUTHWESTERN 17, DANVILLE 2 (4) — Hannah Felty, Morgan Ryan and Nakyia Frye each had two hits in Saturday’s loss.

Frye had a double and drove in two runs, scored by Felty and Ryan. Alayna Wood had two stolen bases.

The Warriors out-hit Danville 18-8.

DANVILLE 16, MCCREARY CENTRAL 6 (6) — The Admirals went up early, holding a 5-0 lead through three innings, and they broke open the game with nine runs in the fifth inning.

Brooklyn Thompson worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit two walks while striking out three.

Alayna Wood and Peyton Young each had three hits for the Ads. Wood drove in two batters while Young scored three times.

Nakyia Frye and Rachel Matherly both had two runs and two RBIs, and Hannah Felty, Morgan Ryan and Amiya Crawford each scored twice.

BOYLE COUNTY 10, ASHLAND BLAZER 4 — The Rebels posted five runs before Blazer cracked the scoreboard in Saturday’s win.

Boyle had 11 hits, led by Channing Whitehouse’s three. Izzy Gervacio had a team-high three RBIs while Katy Grace Chadwell and Keely Bowling each had two.

Kelly Lay worked the complete seven innings, allowing eight hits while striking out 13 batters.

BASEBALL

MERCER COUNTY 18, ROWAN COUNTY 7 (6) — The Titans won their second game of the day as Ty Sims hit two home runs and Mason Hazelwood had another.

Sims went 2-for-3 with four runs and three RBIs. Hazelwood went 3-for-5 with three runs and five RBIs, coming a triple away from hitting for the cycle.

Hunter Kelly went four innings in the start, allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk. He struck out five batters. Trevor Allen and Mason Smith each worked an inning of relief.

TRACK

BATTLE OF THE BLUEGRASS — The Boyle County girls finished second in the eight-team meet, behind duPont Manual in Saturday’s home meet.

Emmie Harris, Kaylee Lanigan and Emily Knetsche swept the top three spots in the 100-meter hurdles. Harris also won the 300 hurdles, with teammate Becca Tarter coming in third.

Kylie Thompson and Daneezia Patton went 1-3 in the 100 dash. Patton was second in the 200, with Thompson coming in fourth.

Tarter won the long jump, with teammate Haley Sheperson coming in second. They also finished first and second in the triple jump.

Gary Wood won the pole vault for the Boyle boys team, and teammate Derek Bernard was second. Landon Bartleson finished third in the 100, second in the 200 and third in the long jump as the Boyle boys team finished eighth overall.
