The Great American Quilt Show hits Main Street, inside of the Presbyterian Church of Danville, noon-5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4, of the festival. The church is located at 500 W. Main St. 

Although titled a “show,” the event’s organizer, Sue Ferguson, says it’s technically an exhibit. 

“It’s not a show because there are not any ribbons awarded,” she says. 

Ferguson says it’s not hard to select the quilts for display. 

“We have many quilters in the area. I haven’t seen it yet, but I know we have a teenager working hard to finish and submit a quilt this year.” 

Ferguson says there’s no technical cap on the amount of quilts they select — “But more than 100 may not exhibit well. But I hope to have that problem, someday …” 

“My favorite thing about the quilts is the variety. There will be totally unique modern quilts and traditional styles. We have some Civil War style and some bright, bright patterns,” says Sue Ferguson, the event’s organizer. “I know some will be quilts mothers or grandmothers have passed down through generations. We will be exhibiting multiple quilts made from the same pattern with each quilters individual interpretation.” 

She says one of the most rewarding things about the exhibit last year was the reaction from the public. 

“They were amazed at the variety and the work in the quilts, and the colors and styles,” Ferguson says. “We had teenagers going up to their parents, saying ‘Mom, look at this,’ and showing them their favorites. It is a beautiful and inspiring show.” 

Some quilts will be available for purchase. Docents will be on-hand to help guide visitors through the show.
