The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include a Summer Coding Club 4 p.m. Mondays, Crafters Who Care 6 p.m. Mondays and Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:

Summer Reading Kick-Off Party

On Monday, June 12, the library will host its annual Summer Reading Kick-Off Party from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Kids of all ages are invited to stop by to register and pick up schedule of activities and reading log, enjoy a cool treat and play in the inflatable bouncy house and obstacle course.

Registration for Summer Reading will continue throughout the summer, and reading logs can be redeemed for prizes. This year’s grand prize for kids and tweens is a new bicycle and helmet provided by Webster Orthodontics. Other grand prizes include a 3-D printing pen (for teens), a Kindle Fire (for adults), and a new bicycle and helmet (for the Outreach Program), provided by the Friends of the Library.

Kid’s Book Club

On Tuesday, June 13, at 2 p.m., the library will host the Kid’s Book Club. The club will meet weekly during the summer on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. for children who are going into grades 1-3. Each week we’ll read a different book from one of our favorite series. Books will include “Geronimo Stilton: Thea Stilton and the Chocolate Sabotage,” “Magic Tree House: Stallion by Starlight,” and “The Boxcar Children: The Castle Mystery.” Children are invited to come discuss the books, participate in trivia and enjoy snacks. Registration is required.

Inter-County Reptiles & Amphibians

As part of the Summer Reading program, the library will host Inter-County Reptiles and Amphibians on Wednesday, June 14, at 10 a.m. Kids of all ages are invited to get an up-close look at some reptiles and amphibians native to Kentucky. Tickets are required to attend this event, and will be given out 30-minutes prior to the start of the program. An additional Outreach performance will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Hogsett Elementary School on the same day. Both events are free and open to the public.

City Skyline Art for Tweens

On Thursday, June 15, at 2 p.m., tweens (ages 9-13) are invited to create a glowing city scape, using vibrant colors and an unusual drawing technique to design skyscrapers and bridges that leap off the page.

Summer Science Clubs

Beginning on July 15,  the library will offer Summer Science Clubs for kids on Thursday mornings. Each week will feature a different science experiment including making sand, elephant toothpaste and a volcano. Participants will also build structures with spaghetti, marshmallows, pretzels and craft sticks. The 5/6 Science Club is for 5- and 6-year-olds and will meet on Thursdays at 10 a.m. The 7/8 Science Club is for 7- and 8-year-olds and will meet on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m.

Third Thursday Book Discussion Groups

The library offers a variety of book discussion groups each month, including the Third Thursday Morning and Evening Book Discussion Groups which meet at the Library on the third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively. These groups are designed for anyone interested in discussing a wide variety of books in a group setting.

Both groups will meet on Thursday, June 15. The Morning Discussion group, which is led by Diana Draper, will discuss “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. The Evening Discussion group is led by Stephanie Donovan and will discuss “Serafina and the Black Cloak” by Robert Beatty. Those interested in participating in either group may pick up a copy of the book at the Circulation Desk in the Library.

Teen Book Club & Movie Night

The Teen Book Club will meet at on Thursday, June 15, at 5 p.m. First we’ll discuss the book “Divergent” by Veronica Roth, then we’ll snack on popcorn while watching the movie. (Rated PG-13.) To receive a copy of the book, please see Julia Basil at the library. For ages 13-18.

Medicare Made Clear

On Thursday, June 15, at 7 p.m., the library will host Medicare Made Clear, an interactive, educational seminar that will cover the basics of Medicare. Presented by Richard Manarchy, attendees will gain an understanding of Medicare parts A, B, C, and D, including who is eligible, coverage options, enrollment times and what to do next.

Bricks for Kidz

As part of the Summer Reading program, Bricks 4 Kidz will visit the library on Friday, June 16,  at 2 p.m., where participants will be able to build motorized LEGO creations. Registration is required for this event. Those interested in attending may call or stop by the Children’s Library to register.

Computer Classes

In the ongoing effort to promote lifelong learning, the Library offers a wide variety of free computer classes every month. The following classes are scheduled for this week:
