A poem about Texas church shooting

Dear Editor,
Sunday
Sutherland Springs
First Baptist Church
Opened
Welcome doors to
neighbors
families
worshipers
small town people.
Little ones probably
wiggled
and giggled
And parents shushed them.
A strange visitor
also came
cold
hard
loaded.
A gun
came to church
And into this hymn place
came a new rhythm
A rat-a-tat-tat
unlike
the usual peace song.
It snatched up
without discernment
babes
teens
mothers
fathers
and elders.
It’s after church now.
All music is silent.
Wailing has replaced it.
And it’s a new week
Or a News Week
The “ Comforter in Chief”
says
“It isn’t a gun thing.”
Sounds like the
title
of an
old hymn.
Doesn’t it?
