1932-2017
Albert “Sam” Gooch Jr., 85, was called to eternal rest on Thursday, November 9, 2017, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Stanford, KY. He was born on February 5, 1932, in Stanford, KY, to the late Mae Willie Goode and Albert Gooch, Sr.
He retired from the Lincoln County School System as a custodian after 39 years of faithful service. He worked for the city of Stanford and was also a farmer. He also served as an Advisor to the USDA Farm Service Agency in Stanford, KY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary V. Masterson, and two brothers, James H. Gooch, and Robert L. Gooch.
Albert accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church – Boneyville in Stanford, KY, where he served as a member of the Trustee board and Stewart board, and he was a member of the Men’s Choir and a member of the gospel group the “Freewill Travelers”. His favorite song was “O It Is Jesus”, and Jesus he loved.
Albert leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Wilma Gooch of Stanford, KY; one son, Jerry (Vickie) Gooch of Danville, KY; one sister, Pauline Hunn; and three brothers, John T. Gooch, Ernest (Irene) Gooch, and Clarence (Sue) Gooch, all of Stanford, KY. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends and will truly be missed.
Visitation will be Monday, November 13, 2017 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be 1pm Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Boneyville, KY with visitation from 11am to 12:30pm. Arrangements entrusted to Spurlin Funeral Home of Stanford.
