Danville approves 3-percent raise for city manager

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the amount of increase in City Manager Ron Scott’s salary and compensation.
The Danville City Commission approved increasing the pay and accepting the annual evaluation of City Manager Ron Scott during Friday’s meeting.
Commissioner Kevin Caudill made the motion “based on exemplary job performance as city manager,” and in light of Scott’s annual evaluation, conducted at a previous meeting.
As of Jan. 1, 2018, Scott will receive a compensation package capped at $130,000. The package includes a $118,450 salary and a contribution to a deferred benefits plan equal to 10 percent of the salary — $11,845. Scott’s salary this year is $115,000, along with the 10-percent ($11,500) contribution to the deferred benefits plan.
Scott received the same 3-percent raise that all city employees were given earlier this year.
Scott is a retiree who has been rehired, so he can’t participate in the state pension plan, explained City Clerk Donna Peek after the meeting, which is why the city contributes to the deferred benefits account for him.
“Ron Scott is worth every penny we pay him,” said Mayor Mike Perros. “If you look at what we’ve gotten done over the past — How many years, Ron? Six? — especially over the last three years that I’ve been aware of, there’s been a lot of ground covered. His vision and leadership, I think, is excellent and a great value for us.”
Commissioners thanked Scott for being there for the city. Scott thanked the commissioners for the positive feedback and the pay adjustment he and other city workers received this year.
“We do have challenges remaining and to the best of my ability, I look forward to addressing those,” he said. “I appreciate the working relationship we have and I look forward to being a productive city manager moving forward.”
