Opening Act is a theatre program for students, previously based out of Perryville, and is now offering classes in Danville.
OA’s mission is to empower and encourage students through performing arts. The classes are offered by Emma Steberl, the owner and instructor who is a 23-year-old resident of Perryville. She has 13 years of professional theater experience behind her, including performances in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and New York City. Steberl has performed beside Tony nominees Beth Fowler and Dee Hoty in the Off-Broadway production of “The Night of the Hunter,” and also has experience with camera and voice-over work.
OA offers a variety of classes, camps and workshops, as well as private voice and acting lessons.
This spring, OA will offer two group classes students may choose from. Acting class will be offered 11 a.m.-noon on Saturday afternoons, which is recommended or students ages 8-16. Participants will be taught techniques, different methods and new skills to become better actors and actresses. They will cover theatre terminology, character development, and much more.
Also, musical theater will be offered noon-1 p.m. Saturday afternoons, and is recommended for students ages 5-13. Participants will be taught proper vocal technique, basic acting skills, choreography, movement skills and more.
Enrollment deadline is Jan. 29, and classes begin Feb. 3. Both classes will culminate in a performance showcase at the end of the semester. Classes will be held at Little Paws Piano and Music Studio, 475 W. Main St. in Danville.
