Stephanie Blevins with Heart of Kentucky United Way, left, and Danville City Commissioner Rick Serres pose for a photo with the “safe communities” flag awarded as part of the Boyle County community’s effort to become an accredited safe community. Blevins presented the flag to the Danville City Commission Monday night; the city will be the holder of the flag going forward, she said. Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln and Mercer counties combined forces to go through the safe communities accreditation process. They formally received accreditation in January. Being a safe community means members of the community are working to reduce injuries, which can reduce hospital visits and lighten the load on first responders, Blevins said.
