Agnes Best White

1929-2018

Agnes Best White, 88, of Perryville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15 in Cumming, Georgia. She was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church.

“Aggie” was born in Washington County, one of nine children born to Paul and Irene Best. She graduated from Danville High School in 1947, and from Georgetown College in 1951. She received a fellowship to attend Gallaudet University in Washington, DC where she received her Masters Degree in the Education of the Hearing Impaired in 1952. She returned to live in Perryville, teaching at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville for 33 years, where she is a member of their Hall of Fame. Her decision to teach the deaf was influenced by her brother, Garland Best, who became deaf at an early age and attended KSD. She and three of her sisters set a record for deaf educators in one family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward K. White; and son, Larry E. White.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn White Womack (Ed) of Cumming, Ga.; grandchildren, Crystal Taylor Cantrelle (Chad) of Luling, La; Dr. Matthew W. Womack (Caty) of Milton, Ga.; David L. White of Charlotte NC, and Kyle L. Womack of Atlanta, Ga; and great grandchildren Keegan and Ryan Cantrelle, AnnaLise White, and Hunter Womack.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at the Perryville United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Perryville United Methodist Church.
