- At the good-bye and good luck reception for retiring animal shelter director Dan Turcea, Boyle County Treasurer Mary Conley gives him a hug.
After 21 years of cleaning out messy dog kennels, loading dogs and cats into crates, washing thousands of loads of dirty towels, listening to barks and whines and answering calls from people who have lost their pets or found a stray … Dan Turcea retired as director of the Danville/Boyle County Animal Shelter Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. During the reception celebrating all of the work Turcea has done for the animal shelter, he looked at his watch and said laughing, “One and a half hours, by god, and I’m out of here.”
