Charles John Berg

1933-2018

Charles John Berg, 85, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Harrodsburg. 

Charles was born on February 17, 1933, to the late William Francis and Jennie Isabel (Kendall) Berg in Fredonia, N.Y. He was married to Arlene Vivian Bulla in Scotia, N.Y. on August 25, 1956. He spent his childhood years among many relatives and working at the family store. After graduating from Fredonia High School he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in their intern program. He graduated from the University of Buffalo as an industrial engineer. He worked at The Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls, N.Y. for 30 years with his final years there as quality control manager. During those 30 years, Chuck and Arlene raised their three children in Tonawanda. The family enjoyed a vacation trip each summer around the states and Canada. Chuck and Arlene enjoyed the theater and orchestral season in Buffalo. They were involved with local school committees to evaluate and suggest various educational improvements. Chuck also worked with the local Boy Scouts. Chuck and Arlene relocated to Danville, Kentucky in 1987 for a change of scenery and new employment at Allison Abrasives. He was hired as quality control manager and assisted in the plant relocation to Lancaster, Kentucky. Chuck was so glad they relocated to Danville with its welcoming community, activities, and shorter winters. He was an active member of the Friends of the Library and attended many of the library’s events. He was an active member and on the board of the West T. Hill Community Theatre. He enjoyed many Centre College events and the Brass Band festivals. He was a member of study groups where he greatly enjoyed the exchange of various viewpoints. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Lesch and brother-in-law, Robert N. Lesch; a nephew; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years; two sons, Charles John (Jennifer) Berg and Eric Stuart (Margo) Berg; one daughter, Kimberly Jeanne (Richard) Sylvester; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two nephews. 

The family greatly appreciates the services and caring provided by Heritage Hospice, the staff at Harrodsburg Health & Rehabilitation Center, and special family friend Barbara.
