Meeting cancelled

The Monday night (March19) meeting of the Boyle County Genealogical and Historical Society has been cancelled. The next meeting will be in April.

Mercer County Senior High School Site-Based Decision Making Council –  4:30 p.m. Monday, March 19. Agenda includes Behavior/PBIS Report; Academic Progress Check; Budget Report; Old Business; New Business including requests/staffing update, scheduling progress, End of Course assessments, school safety update, graduation/baccalaureate dates and senior trip; set time and date of next meeting.

Housing Authority of Danville Central Office – 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 20 at 1014 Rosemont Ave. Agenda includes: approval of the following – minutes for board, for special called meeting, of bills paid for February, of maintenance charges and construction contract; update from attorney; 2018 project training/travel schedule; EnVision Center Commitment letter; Resident Services Coordinator position filled; vacancy list; and residents newsletter.

Groundbreaking for sports complex

Danville Christian Academy will hold a groundbreaking 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, for the addition of a sports complex. The event will be held at the school at 2170 Shakertown Rd.

BCTC hosting job fair

Bluegrass Community and Technical College is hosting a job fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the BCTC Danville Campus, 59 Corporate Drive, Danville.

Several businesses will be there including  LSC Communications, Ephraim McDowell Health, Berry Global, Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems, Pitman Creek Wholesale, Honeywell Intelligrated,  National Office Furniture and many more.

These companies will be providing information on employment opportunities and career pathways.

BCTC Career Center recommends coming prepared to interview with resume and any other relevant information for employers.

Ephraim McDowell Health sponsoring free health screenings on March 28

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free health screening on March 28 at the Danville Boyle County Senior Citizens Center. The free screenings will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Health screenings that will be offered are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, stroke risk and take-home colorectal cancer screening kits (over age 50). After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional.

Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel. This gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.  Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water.

Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, please call (859) 236-2070. The screenings are open to the public for anyone 18 years and older.
