A Liberty man was charged with drug possession and driving under the influence following a traffic stop on U.S. 127 Sunday.

Errick Hamilton, 36, was stopped shortly before 9:30 p.m. because he was traveling at “high rate of speed” in a 1997 Mercury vehicle, according to Kentucky State Police.

Trooper Jake Harper pulled Hamilton over and “noticed that he appeared to be under the influence,” according to a news release.

“As Trooper Harper asked Hamilton to step out of the vehicle, Trooper Martin Wesley observed the driver attempt to conceal an item under a baseball cap in the seat beside him,” the release states. “After performing (a sobriety test), the subject was arrested and a search … (led) to troopers finding approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine in a plastic bag underneath the baseball cap.”

Hamilton was charged with speeding (17 miles over the limit); failure to wear a seat belt, no driver’s license, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (first offense); first-degree possession of methamphetamine (third or greater offense); and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to KSP.
