The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events for all ages. The Science in Play 2Go exhibit is currently on display in the Children’s Library. Weekly programs include Adult Storytime 9 a.m. Mondays, Coding Classes 4 p.m. Mondays, Adult Education Classes 5 p.m. Mondays, Crafters Who Care 6 p.m. Mondays and Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. In addition to these weekly events, the following library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:

• Baby Lapsit: 10: 30 a.m. Monday. The program focuses on early literacy skills and is designed for infants up to 12 months and their caregivers. Babies sit on their caregiver’s lap and interact with them while enjoying rhyming songs, finger plays, and short stories designed with babies in mind. Registration is required.

• Great American Read Book Clubs for Tweens & Teens: The library will host two book clubs for the Great American Read, which features a list of America’s 100 best-loved novels. Both book clubs will include trivia themed games and snacks. At 4 p.m. Monday, tweens (ages 9-13) will discuss “Ghost” by Jason Reynolds. At 4 p.m. Tuesday, teens (ages 13-18) will discuss “The Fellowship of the Ring” by JRR Tolkien. Those interested in participating in either book club can register and pick up a free book at the library.

• Adult How To: Composting: 6 p.m. Monday. Learn the basics of composting from a master gardener. Event is organized by the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office.

• History Café: Area Disasters: 6 p.m. Thursday. This monthly event provides a place where people can gather and chat about local history. This month we’ll talk about local disasters, including the 1860 Danville fire, tornadoes, floods and earthquakes.

• Fall Film Series — Comedies (week 2): 7 p.m. Thursday. The Friends of the Library continue with their annual Fall Film Series. Films will be shown on select Thursday evenings in the Community Room through mid-November and will be introduced each by Charles Vahlkamp, professor emeritus at Centre College. There is no charge for admission, and free popcorn will be available.

This week’s film is a romantic comedy from 1940. In the film, a socialite’s ex-husband and a tabloid reporter turn up just before her wedding to a nouveau riche businessman.

• Drop your drawers at the library: Briefly speaking, St. Asaph DAR and the Boyle County Public Library need your help for a good cause. Drop Your Drawers @ the Library, a cooperative effort with libraries all across the state, seeks to make sure that every child shows up to school and stays in school for the whole school day in clean underwear that fits.

Drop off packages of new underwear for boys and girls, preferably sizes 4-16, through Nov. 30 at the library and at various locations throughout the community. Donations will help replenish Danville Independent and Boyle County elementary and intermediate schools’ supplies of emergency underpants and provide direct assistance to each school’s Family Resource Centers.

Underwear may be dropped off at the library, 307 W. Broadway,at each of the participating schools and at various drop locations throughout the community. The “Drop Your Drawers!” campaign is easily recognizable by the popular character of Captain Underpants by author and illustrator Dav Pilkey.

Underwear is a basic need and one that is easily forgotten. Schools are handing out more than 180 pairs a month to children who need clean underwear due to accidents at school or issues at home. Because parents often are unable to bring fresh underwear to their children during school hours, children can miss valuable learning time in the classroom.

The goal of this local drive is to receive 500 pairs. Underwear will be distributed evenly to five elementary and intermediate schools in Boyle County. The schools are: Hogsett Primary School, Junction City Elementary School, Perryville Elementary School, Toliver Intermediate School and Woodlawn Elementary School.

The library’s collection of Captain Underpants’ children’s books will be on display and available to check out during the Drop Your Drawers campaign.  For more information about the campaign, visit BoylePubLib.org.
