Free workshop on stream issues tonight

A Saving Your Streambanks Workshop will be 6-7:30 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 2) at the Boyle County Extension Office, 99 Corporate Drive. This is a free workshop focusing on the many challenges Kentucky streams face from day-to-day urban and agricultural activities. When we look for answers to our streambank erosion and water quality issues, it’s important to look holistically at the causes, including: What are the outside factors affecting the stream off-property? What is happening on my property that may be affecting the stream? What does the stream look like on my property, and ow could that be affecting the problem?

Dedication of Vietnam memorial stone to be held

A Vietnam memorial dedication will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Road, Nicholasville. The event is HOTH mission, which stands for Help on the Homefront — a volunteer outreach program that provides financial support to U.S. veterans — is a sponsored by VFW Post 3634.

Meetings

Perryville City Council — 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Perryville Community Center, 216 S. Buell St. The agenda includes the second reading of the tax rate, a recommendation to hire a new city clerk, and resident Steve Walker asked to be added to the agenda.

Fort Harrod Back Country Horsemen October meeting — 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Mercer County Extension office, Harrodsburg. FHBCH invites local horse enthusiasts to join us for our monthly meeting. If you already camp with your horses or are interested in learning about camping, this is the meeting to attend! Even of you don’t ride, the stories about camping with horses will be great. 

Our guest speaker, Sarah Waddell will present: How to prepare for camping with your horse. Sarah is a Midway College graduate with a Master’s degree from the University of Kentucky. She has a lifelong experience with horses including 4-H, United States Pony Club and the Midway Equestrian Team. She has spent the last seven years traveling and camping with her horses while competing in endurance rides.

Candidate Linderman to speak at event

The Women’s Network will host Hank Linderman, Democratic candidate  for Kentucky’s 2nd District of the US House of Representatives, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at  the Inter-County

Energy Community Room at 1009 Hustonville Road. Linderman will speak and answer questions in a public forum. The event was to be in a debate format, but Incumbent Republican Congressman Brett Guthrie has declined to participate. For more information, call (859) 236-9305.

Correction

The article “Voters unlikely to see 54th District candidates square off in public” that appeared in Friday’s paper incorrectly stated that no Democrat filed to run in the primary election for the 54th District Kentucky House of Representatives seat. Anne Ray Streeter initially filed for the primary, but later withdrew. There is no Democratic nominee in the race.
