Anyone who wants to receive a 2-percent reduction on their 2018 Boyle County property tax bill must have it at the sheriff’s office by 4:30 p.m. today (Nov. 30). Any bills mailed that are postmarked today will also be eligible to receive the discount.
Boyle Sheriff’s Office Manager Janice Spears said the office has been very busy these past few days with people bringing in their payments. She said anyone coming to the sheriff’s office today should expect to wait in long lines.
Spears said this time of year, the Sheriff’s Office not only stays busy taking in tax payments, but they also have stacks of mailed payments to sort through, in addition to all of the other daily responsibilities they take care of.
The face amount of the tax bill can be paid from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31. There will be a 5 percent penalty added to tax bills paid between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31, 2019.
A 10-percent penalty and a 10-percent Sheriff’s add-on fee will be added to any property tax bills paid between Feb. 1 and April 16, 2019.
When mailing in a payment, you should include a copy of the tax bill or write the tax bill number on the check. If you want a paid receipt returned to you, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
